Crypto.com LED Ribbon Display Installation Expedited with Accurate Data

The Crypto.com Arena was replacing LED ribbon displays around the arena as part of a facility upgrade.
Task: The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California was laser scanned and 3D modeled to capture site data for the purpose of replacing LED ribbon displays around the arena as part of a facility upgrade. Our client, a world leader in manufacturing and installing audiovisual systems, was installing more than 3,000 linear feet of LED ribbon displays at the arena. These upgrades were completed to maintain the arena’s reputation for world-class amenities and deliver an experience that is second to none.
Challenge: Three new ribbon displays were being installed along different levels of the seating, tripling the number of linear feet of ribbon displays that the Crypto.com Arena previously had. Ribbon displays are thin and long, and can run the length of the venue and even wrap around it. The lower-level ribbon display measured 2.5 feet high and 894 feet wide; the mid-level ribbon display measured 2.5 feet high and 1,096 feet wide; and the upper-level ribbon display measured 2.5 feet high and 1,096 feet wide.
Solution: 3D laser scanning captured precise as built data of the arena, providing critical structural details to aid the installation of the new ribbon displays. Design planning and coordination between the display manufacturer, structural engineers, and the installation crew was necessary to ensure the LED ribbon displays were securely installed.
3D Mesh of Hollywood Studio Stage and LED Panels
This client needed accurate data of the stage and each LED panel to tie virtual reality into the real world.

Task: GPRS 3D laser scanned a Hollywood film studio’s stage and LED wall panel system to tie into a virtual reality experience during the filming of a segment for an upcoming Xbox Game Showcase. The client needed an accurate representation of the stage and the location of each LED panel to tie virtual reality into the real world.
Challenge: LED walls are large high-resolution displays made up of multiple LED tiles that are seamlessly joined together to form a single, continuous screen. For this project, every surface of the LED panel on the wall and floor needed to be 3D modeled and converted to a 3D mesh file to be utilized in the virtual reality experience.
Solution: 3D laser scanning quickly gathered accurate data of the stage and LED wall panel system. The GPRS Mapping & Modeling Team modeled the site in very high detail and converted the data into a .obj 3D mesh file. The studio will be able to easily display realistic environments in the LED wall panel system while filming on set.
As Built Dimensions Captured in OU Arena to Install LED Video Display

The University of Oklahoma Lloyd Noble Center was adding a new LED video display over the top of the players entrance tunnel.
Task: The Lloyd Noble Center, home to The University of Oklahoma men’s and women’s basketball teams, was adding a new LED video display over the top of the players entrance tunnel. The general contractor hired by the University has completed hundreds of video display installations across the United States and brought GPRS in to capture the exact details and dimensions of the players tunnel to plan the structural steel support, anchor points, and electrical tie-ins.
Challenge: The massive video display weighed thousands of pounds and was suspended over the players entrance tunnel and court. The structural engineering of this large-scale display was critical to ensuring the physical safety of the players, fans, workers, and anyone who enters the facility. Design planning from accurate as built site conditions ensures that the system will be precisely installed and prevent miscommunication, risks, delays, and unexpected issues.
Solution: The GPRS Project Manager used 3D laser scan technology to quickly document the existing conditions of the players tunnel in the form of a 3D point cloud. The accurate as built data GPRS provided was used to plan the engineering of the mounting structure and connection points. It was important for the general contractor to have a design plan documented for the crews to follow with strict safety and installation procedures.

GPRS captured as built data of the stadium and aligned the point cloud data to the client’s existing 3D model.
Challenge: Our client specializes in the design, fabrication, and installation of large-scale exterior signage. They needed to verify the centerlines of the structural steel framework that their components would be fitted to. All components were to be manufactured off site, so it was important to have accurate as built conditions of the structural steel. Also, data needed to be collected without interrupting the other construction work occurring at the site.
Solution: The value of GPRS services was recognized almost immediately on this project. Upon reviewing the data, the client noticed that the steel on the north and south ends of the stadium did not align with the design plans. As a result, our client and the project’s general contractor made arrangements for the steel in these areas to be corrected.
