Task: The client was adding a greenhouse to an existing museum. TruePoint provided 3D laser scanning services to capture the as-built conditions of the historic building façade and parapet walls.

Challenge: The client was on a tight timeline and needed point cloud files delivered quickly. They were worried that traditional measurement methods would be time consuming and inaccurate. The client would also have the added expense of renting a lift to take these measurements manually.

Solutions: In one day on site, TruePoint provided accurate measurements using an industry-leading survey-grade Leica laser scanner. TruePoint registered the data to existing survey control for the client’s use and aligned the point cloud to their existing 2D structural drawings. Laser scanning was conducted safely from ground level and did not require the use of a lift.

Deliverable: TruePoint provided the client with intensity map point cloud files (.rcp and .rcs files).

Added Value: TruePoint was familiar with the site having done previous work there. Having this experience allowed us to quickly provide a proposal for the scope of work. Once on-site, we efficiently accessed the museum and complete scanning in the shortest amount of time possible. The client requested that only the East and West façade of the museum be laser scanned. TruePoint worked closely with the client to document these requirements and conduct 3D laser scanning of the specific areas needed, saving the client additional time and money. The client quickly received point cloud files aligned to their existing 2D structural drawings so they could begin the design phase and plan the connection points for the greenhouse.
