Laser Scanning Industrial Pump

TruePoint provided 3D laser scanning services for a leading manufacturer of industrial pumps and valves in Grovetown, Georgia.

Case Study: 3D Laser Scanning to Expedite Testing of an Industrial Pump

Client Testimonial: “Thanks for your help. Testing of the world’s largest mining pump is underway.” - G. McCall, Project Engineer

Location: Grovetown, Georgia

Task: A leading manufacturer of industrial pumps and valves needed precise measurements of an existing hydraulic lab prior to the installation of a new mining pump. TruePoint’s Georgia office quickly mobilized to 3D laser scan a 50' x 50' x 30' area, including the mechanical equipment and piping. Once this project is completed, the client will be testing the world’s largest mining pump.

Challenge: The client identified clash points on the existing pump and needed precise details to make adjustments prior the installation of the mining pump.

Solution: The client contacted TruePoint to 3D laser scan the area and provide a registered point cloud of the existing hydraulic lab. The client planned to use the point cloud to create a 3D model of the existing features in the lab and determine where clashes exist.

Deliverable: TruePoint’s team of in-house engineers delivered a registered .rcs point cloud file. TruePoint removed all noise and validated the overall registration of the point cloud data set to produce the most accurate measurements for the client. These precise measurements will minimize error and ensure tight lines in their 3D model.

Added Value: The client was able to detect multiple clash points within the 3D software and make adjustments prior to the installation of the new mining pump.
