Case Study: 3D Laser Scanning a Packaging Facility
Location: Conroe, Texas near Houston, TX
Task: TruePoint provided 3D scanning services for a facility near Houston, Texas where they label, package, and create metal for soda cans and other products. TruePoint was called when a previous laser scanning company did not capture all of the critical data. The client needed accurate 3d measuring for three pieces of equipment and three main pipe lines. TruePoint captured piping, flanges, structural steel, mechanical equipment, ductwork, deck, grade and a cooling tower.
Challenge: Missing data stalled their project and the client was looking for a quick turnaround on a proposal and data collection. Additionally, the facility was active and the client did not want Lidar services to interfere with their operations.
Solutions: TruePoint’s Houston office quickly mobilized to the site and performed 3D laser scanning services on short notice without interrupting plant operations. TruePoint captured the existing conditions and delivered the intensity map point cloud files in a timely manner. TruePoint’s laser scan technician quickly registered data and shipped the client a hard drive so their project could continue.
Deliverable: TruePoint delivered intensity map point cloud files and black and white point cloud TruViews. The client was able to tie the data to their existing plant coordinate system.
Added Value: Having scan technicians throughout the U.S., TruePoint was able to quickly mobilize to the site to help the client get back on schedule.
